New Trident physician is MUSC's first African-American graduate

Trident Health System announced on Monday the addition of Dr. Rose Delores Gibbs to the medical staff. For the last 27 years, Dr. Gibbs has practiced Internal Medicine at Berkeley Medical Center in Moncks Corner. Previously, she was a U.S. Peace Corps Medical Officer from 1979-1984.

In 1973, Dr. Gibbs became the first African-American female to receive a Medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and her Infectious Disease Fellowship at Howard University. Dr. Gibbs obtained her Tropical Medicine Certificate from The Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington D.C.
